Georgian non-governmental organizations, often funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), have been and remain involved in attempts to destabilize the situation in Georgia.
This statement was made by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
He cited the NGO International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED), which is also funded by USAID. Kobakhidze claims that this organization manipulated the results of the parallel vote count during the 2020 parliamentary elections, which, according to him, was intended to provoke unrest in society.
"You can still see how things are developing. At the forefront of attempts for revolution are these NGOs, which are funded from abroad, including by USAID and NED (National Endowment for Democracy). They have already been openly criticized by the new U.S. administration," he emphasized.
Kobakhidze expressed hope that under the new U.S. administration, the approach of the U.S. embassy towards the Georgian people and state will change, and the "distorted coordination" between the embassy, USAID, NED, and other relevant structures will cease.
